Lawn mowing and garden maintenance Penrith

Landscaping Penrith takes lawn mowing and garden maintenance jobs across the Penrith area, as a regular round or a one-off visit: mowing and edging, hedge trimming, weeding, mulching and tidy-ups. A local landscaper we work with visits first, looks at the lawn, the garden and the access, then agrees a clear price and what's included before any work starts.

What sets the price of mowing and garden maintenance

The landscaper prices mowing and maintenance at the site visit, from what they see in the yard:

  • The size of the lawn, front and back
  • How often they come: a regular round, or a one-off visit to a lawn that has grown long
  • The edges and clippings: how much edging there is along paths, beds and fences, and whether the clippings are taken away
  • Access: the side gate, steps or a slope, and whether the mower has to go through the garage
  • Anything else on the visit, such as hedges, weeding, mulch and green waste

For a regular round, the price is agreed before the first visit.

Regular rounds or one-off visits

A regular round keeps the lawn and garden in shape without you booking each visit. It suits busy families, owners who would rather not mow any more, and landlords. A round can be mowing alone, or mowing with other gardening services such as hedges, weeding and mulch.

A one-off visit suits a lawn that has got away, or a garden that needs a tidy-up before a rental inspection, a new lease or a sale. About a third of Penrith homes are rented, so landlords and property managers can book either.

Mowing and edging

A mowing visit covers the lawn, the edges and the clean-up: the grass cut, the edges trimmed along paths, beds and fences, and the clippings blown off the paths and driveway.

Much of Penrith sits on clay that drains slowly, so after a summer storm a lawn can stay soft for days, and a mower on soft ground leaves ruts.

Older suburbs

Kingswood and St Marys

Couch and kikuyu lawns send runners into the beds and under the fence, so the edges need cutting back each visit. Where a lawn has thinned past saving, returfing is a turf job.

New estates

Jordan Springs and Caddens

The lawns are small, a front panel and a back panel, and the mower may have to go down a narrow side path or through the garage.

The foothills

Leonay and Emu Heights

Sloping lawns and banks take more care, and the landscaper checks at the site visit which parts are mowed and which are cut with a line trimmer.

Acreage

Mulgoa and Orchard Hills

Big lawns need a ride-on.

Hedge trimming and garden tidy-ups

Hedge trimming takes in screens along the fence, front hedges and shrubs, such as the lilly pilly screens common along estate fences. A tidy-up adds the other gardening jobs: weeding the beds, pruning shrubs, fresh mulch and the green waste cleared. Fresh mulch over the beds keeps the soil cooler and holds water through summer.

Watering in summer

Penrith Lakes averages about 22 days a year at or above 35 °C. Sydney Water's Water Wise Guidelines say to water gardens before 10 am or after 4 pm, when less is lost to the heat. New turf is the exception: it can be watered at any time for its first 28 days (see Turf).

Clay takes water in slowly, and water that can't soak in runs off. For garden beds, a drip line under the mulch puts the water at the roots; see Garden design and planting.

What happens after you ask

  1. Send your suburb, the job (mowing, hedges or a tidy-up) and whether you want a regular round or a one-off visit. A photo of the yard helps. You hear back within 48 hours.
  2. A local landscaper calls to book a visit. On site they look at the size of the lawn, the edges, hedges and beds, the side access and where the clippings and green waste go.
  3. You get a clear price and what's included, agreed before any work starts. For a round, you agree how often they come; for a one-off visit, they give you a time frame once they've seen the job.

Questions people ask

How much does lawn mowing cost in Penrith?

As a rough guide, about $65 to $110 a visit for a medium Sydney lawn (Yakka Labour, October 2026), less for a small one. These are published guide figures, not a quote for your job. The size of the lawn, how often it's mowed, the edges and clippings, and the access set your price, and the landscaper agrees it with you at the site visit, before any work starts.

Can I get a gardener for a one-off tidy-up?

Yes. A one-off visit can take in mowing, edging, weeding, hedges and mulch, for example before a rental inspection or a sale. The landscaper prices it at the site visit, from how much there is to cut, weed and clear away.

Do you trim hedges?

Yes, on a regular round or as a one-off visit. The height and length of the hedge, how easy it is to reach both sides and how much green waste comes off it set the price.

Do you take the grass clippings away?

Whether clippings and green waste are taken away or left in your green bin is agreed at the site visit and included in the price.

Can you mow while I'm not home?

Ask when you enquire. If it suits, the side gate, any lock and the dog are sorted out at the site visit.

Do you mow small lawns?

A small front lawn, a strip beside the driveway or a courtyard lawn is worth asking about.
